Alpaca

Our Animals

A n alpaca is a member of the camelid family. It has been a domesticated breed in South America, since Incan times. Unlike its cousin the Llama who was bred for packing, the Alpaca was bred as a fiber animal. In its native land, high in the Andes mountains, the Alpaca has developed a coat that is strong and resilient , yet fine and luxurious. It is soft and smooth to the touch, yet has more thermal capacity than any other animal fiber including wool. It also comes in 22 natural colors-more than any other animal fiber.
B ut to speak only to its fiber qualities misses the essence of being an alpaca owner. Alpacas are gentle animals who are most comfortable in a herd setting. They can be very inquisitive, often "checking out" what new addition Dick is putting in their fields or chasing the new batch of kittens that have dared to visit their pens. We often find ourselves sitting out in their pasture just watching their peaceful grazing or their apparent joy of life as they lope around their fields at sundown. Clint
Clint T here are sites on the internet that will speak to the alpacas' investment potential as well as logistics such as animals per acre or health care needs, but until you visit an alpaca farm--ours or a breeder near you, you may never understand the magic these lovely animals possess. They have captured our hearts and we think they will also capture yours.
